Located 40 miles northeast of Atlanta in the small town of Auburn, Georgia we are sponsored by AA Drilling and Blasting. Our Troop was formed in December of 2001 when a group of 5 families could not find a traditional Boy Scout Troop. The founders-John King, Bob deGraaf, Mark Duncan, Stacey Cochran and Jonathan Long approached the Men's Club of Midway Church and asked for a sponsorship. We have enjoyed their support ever since, but have outgrown the facility and are now located in our own "Scout Hut".
With a new Troop, a new Charter, seven excited boys,we were off with a bang...except for one thing...we had no money or equipment. We prayed for guidance. The power of prayer truly works. Mr. Frank Sinkwich and his company Northeast Sales and Distributing came to our rescue. As it turns out, Mr. Frank had fond memories as a young man when a Scoutmaster took him water skiing. He knew of the benefits of Scouting and generously endowed our Troop enabling us to purchase the needed equipment and supplies to form the Troop.
Stacey Cochran was our first Committee Chair, and John King the first Scoutmaster. John is an Eagle Scout, and had told many stories of his old Scoutmaster Tony Tsaggos. Scoutmaster Tony had formed the ideal Scout Troop in 1960's New Jersey, and the parents of Troop 774 wanted to follow his example.
To date, our Troop has grown to include a Cub Scout Pack (Pack 574), 30 Boy Scouts, and Venture Crew 774. Of the seven original boys, FIVE have earned the highest award in Scouting...the Eagle Badge.
Many boys have come and gone. Many parents have given their time and devotion. Troop 774 continues to lead by example in the Northeast Georgia Council.
The legacy of "Scoutmaster Tony" lives on........
